Hi everyone,
Exciting news for lightning sprint racers in Middle America. MLS and MALS have joined forces to become one super group. Last season saw record growth in car count and quality of shows in this area and both groups want to seize on this opportunity to make this area one of the premier lightning sprint groups in the nation. We are in the process of putting together our schedule for the 2015 season and hope to have it finalized within the next couple of months. So far it looks like tracks that are interested in running our class are I-35, CMS, Nevada, Double-X, Humboldt, US-50 and possible Grain Valley. Dues have been reinstated for the 2015 season. The Driver/Owner dues will be $ 50. We have attached a Membership form to be filled out and returned with your dues. Remember dues help pay for expenses the MLS accrues throughout the year in promotional cost, pit pass for workers, printed material and other experiences. Dues should be paid as soon as possible and no later than Jan 1st 2015 as expenses for next season have already began to mount. Make the checks out to Midwest Lightning Sprints.
If you were not at the meeting on Oct. 26th there are a few changes to the engine and chassis rules which will be covered in detail once the 2015 rule book has been finalized on Jan 1st 2015. Other changes for this coming season are appointed officers.

Car show starts on Fri Feb 13th at 12:00 noon and runs thru Sun at 6:00 pm. We also need volunteers to show their cars at the NKC Snake Parade Sat Mar 14th. Cars must be in the show area at 8:30 on Sat morning. Show ends about 3 pm .

As the dust settles on the final events of the year I think most will agree this has been a great year for our sport in our area. Thanks to the hard work of MALS / MLS and our sponsors we have seen renewed interest in our class with new racers, tracks and potential sponsors. It is never too early to start thinking about next season. Next year our class has the potential of having a 20 car field each and every night we race. As with every New Year there are new challenges and new goals. We would like to start this season on a great note and capitalize on everyone’s participation and hard work this season.

MLS and MALS will be holding a joint area lightning sprint meeting on Sunday Nov. 2nd 2014 at Liquid and Powder Coat finishes of KC at 10am. LPCFKC address is 4645 E. 11th Street, Kansas City, MO 64127, Donuts and drinks will be provided.

You do not have to be affiliated with either group to participate in this meeting. Donuts and Coffee will be provided. Topics to be covered are……
1. How to improve our class to continue its growth
2. Rules
3. Challenges
4. Tracks
5. Goals
6. National Rules
7. Other classes wanting our spot at tracks
8. Tentative Schedule
9. Others, Open floor
We value everyone’s participation and input. Please make every attempt to be present at this meeting as we are all in this sport together and have a vested interest in it as car owner or family members of car owners.

Mid-America Lightning Sprints Presented by Jayhawk Millwright Results from Central Missouri Speedway Aug. 2nd 2014

By CMS PR (Warrensburg, MO) — Kids Night at Central Missouri Speedway is a family event the fans as well as drivers always look forward to and last night was another special one with a large crowd on hand to witness all the action. The night was even more special for the kids, especially for the boys and girls who left the track with new bikes and backpacks from random drawings along with hundreds of goodie bags filled with various school supplies and race related trinkets.

The Mid-America Lightning Sprints returned to CMS for their second visit of the season. The opening heat race had Phil Heavelow from Buckner taking the win in a close battle with Mark Billings of Columbia, in the final heat race it was Zack Morehead from Grain Valley claiming the victory to set up the main event starting line-up. Ryan Kent was involved in a roll over wreck on the front side of the track in heat one but was okay after the incident.
Heavelow started on the front row with Mike Trent and drove low into turn one coming out of turn two at the start of the sprint feature. Meanwhile, several drivers including Zack Morehead, Billings and Bobby Layne worked hard to maintain positions in the top five. Heavelow never looked back and worked his way through lapped traffic for the Lightning Sprint feature win just in front of Trent, who posted a solid second-place finish. Morehead moved up into third after Billings pulled off for a mechanical issue. Bobby Layne moved took fourth and Luke McGee finished fifth in his first visit to the track.
